Sustainable Forestry is one of the newest approaches to managing
your timber. It is based on sound and tested timber management
practices that have been approved by the leaders in the industry.
Your timber stand is one of your most valuable assets and it is
important to know that you are properly managing your timber... for
current and future growth.
Sustainable Forestry Consultants have developed a four-step approach
to timber management that is based on sound forestry management. We
are available to demonstrate and implement a "Best Practice"
approach for your forest land. |

| |
#1 - DISCOVERY |
|
| |
|
|
| |
S.F.C.'s
first priority is to the landowner. We will sit down with the
landowner to discuss their desires and long term plans for their
property. We understand that each property is different and the
goals of the landowner will vary. We ask the right questions to
determine the best approach to managing the property.
S.F.C. will also explain the “Best Practice” procedures that are in
your best interest. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
#2 - EVALUATION |
|
| |
|
|
| |
After
meeting and understanding the landowner's goals, S.F.C will locate
the property both on topographical maps and aerial photographic
maps. We will then initiate the fieldwork for the timber harvest.
S.F.C. utilizes all of the necessary tools to determine the timber
stands density, quality and species composition. During this
process, the trees to be removed will be identified and marked. Unless there are
other issues presented by the landowner, the timber will be marked
using a "TIMBER STAND IMPROVEMENT" TSI harvest. This harvest is an
ongoing process that develops a healthy and quality timber stand
that will benefit the landowner now and in the future. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
#3 - HARVEST MANAGEMENT |
|
| |
|
|
| |
After
the timber has been properly marked
for sale by S.F.C a prospectus
will be created and mailed to a list of 60 - 80 potential
buyers. There will be a private bid opening and after approval the
high bidder will be awarded the "Harvesting Contract". S.F.C. will work with the company
harvesting the timber to ensure they understand and comply with all
the items in the contract. Before any timber is cut, the landowner
will be paid and all required insurances and DEP Erosion and Soil
Control plans are in place.
S.F.C will monitor the progress
of the timber harvest through its completion. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
THIS IS THE POINT WHERE MOST CONSULTING FIRMS STOP. S.F.C. OFFERS
THE NEXT TWO IMPORTANT PHASES OF YOUR TIMBER MANAGEMENT PLAN. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
#4 - LONG TERM MONITORING & REPORTING |
|
| |
|
|
| |
During
the evaluation and timber marking process, S.F.C. will identify
between 25 - 100 trees that are not to be harvested. The number of
trees will depend on the size of the timberland. (On very large
tracts a point sample cruise may be utilized) These "monitor trees"
will be marked and identified by Location, Species, Diameter, Height
and Volume for long-term evaluation. A report on these trees will be
provided to the landowner. As part of the TSI process a 5-year
evaluation and report on these monitor trees will be prepared. S.F.C.
will go back into the stand and evaluate the "monitor trees" for
growth, health and quality. A new report and opinion will be
presented to the landowner for review. This process will continue at
least every five years or as needed until the next harvest. The
system is also designed to identify any issues that can affect the
health and vigor of the timber such as; blow down, ice damage,
insect infestations, blights etc.
Call us today to schedule a
